Text - Genesis 40.20-23
20 Now it came to pass on the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants; and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.
21 Then he restored the chief butler to his butlership again, and he placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.
22 But he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them.
23 Yet the chief butler did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.
1 Then it came to pass, at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh had a dream; and behold, he stood by the river.

Main Ideas
Main Ideas
Why/When do we need a breakthrough -
when we experience setbacks - we are stuck in a rut, we cannot get past our failures, weakness, struggles
when we are at an impasse - our move is opposed by an equal force
A breakthrough is that time in one’s life when God breaks the “status quo” (present, existing condition) and begins to accomplish His predetermined plans.
it stands between life’s ‘status quo’ and success
it can happen in small or big situations
it happens in the worst time of life
it is the beginning of victorious living
it is God’s work, not ours

A breakthrough can get everyone healed...
92 What more could our Lord Jesus do? Oh, my. I realize, friends, I can’t stand here much longer, all the thing’s becoming like one great big ball of Light. I can’t tell where or what. But with this anticipation, with this faith believing… Have faith in God. Accept it.
Now, if you believe, then act on—on your faith. Act on your faith, and God will bring it to pass. Don’t you believe that? Oh, if I could just get you to break through. If you just come through that little spot there, you’d get every one be healed before I even would call another person. You do it, friends. How can you doubt, when God is standing here, when—when God… Not your brother; I’m just a man. But your Saviour is here. A man…
Breakthrough before a revival...
4 And I love to have a meeting in the church. Many places, we have them in stadiums, and out in the outdoors, and in the arenas, but there’s something different when you have it in the church. There seems to be that it’s a sweeter, closer fellowship when you’re in the church. Out in those arenas, worldly places, we are grateful for the privilege of being out there, but it seems like that you find an oppression, like a demon power, that you have to break through before the revival ever starts. And then when you come into the church, it’s a place where God dwells, it’s coming to His house to have a meeting.
57-0417 - The Second Coming Of The Lord
Breaking through veils of unbelief, and systems…
117 Now, and one time, if a man walked through that veil, it was sudden death. Now it’s death not to go through It! Amen. If you can’t break that veil of tradition, break through that wall of denomination, to see God in His power, it’s death. Once where it was death to go in, now it’s death to stay out. The whole Mercy Seat is setting in plain view, anybody can see It, the veil is rent. Glory to God! The whole Mercy Seat comes into plain view.

240 Each one of you that’s standing around the altar now, that’s truly confessed you’re wrong; and in the Presence of God, you believe me to be His prophet, and believe that I have told you the Truth upon this, and you believe that your sins are gone; and you now, by faith, you break through that veil, into the Presence of God, and say, “Lord, I believe You right now, and accept You”? Raise your hands, and say, “I do it.” Each one around the altar, raise your hands and say, “I do it. I now believe it.” God bless you. Amen. That’s the way to do it. That’s it. Just by faith, break through that veil.

Setbacks before the Breakthrough
Setbacks before the Breakthrough
Joseph’s breakthrough
“Then it came to pass...”
1 Then it came to pass, at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh had a dream; and behold, he stood by the river.
Joseph had suffered a series of setbacks since the day his father sent him to look after his brothers in the field
he thrown by his brothers in a pit
he sold to traveling merchants
he was sold in Egypt
he became a servant in the house of Potiphar
he accused of rape by his master’s wife
he was thrown into a dungeon
he was forgotten by those he helped
Joseph’s breakthrough came when pharaoh has a dream
God created the occasion that required the gift that He placed in Joseph’s life!
Perez - the breach
28 And so it was, when she was giving birth, that the one put out his hand; and the midwife took a scarlet thread and bound it on his hand, saying, “This one came out first.”
29 Then it happened, as he drew back his hand, that his brother came out unexpectedly; and she said, “How did you break through? This breach be upon you!” Therefore his name was called Perez.
Judah had made a series of mistakes
he forgot his promise to his daughter in-law, Tamar
he went out to find comfort from a prostitute
his sin resulted in a twin pregnany of Tamar
the second child broke through, overtaking his twin brother
“how did you make break through?” - God helped this child “break through”
Perez was a breakthrough that judah needed in his house after his failures
God was not finished with Judah
Perez became a big household - Ruth 4.11-12
Perez became a forefather of King David and the Lord Jesus Christ!
David’s breakthrough
David was looked down in his family
the youngest
the smallest
left in the field
But God ahas chosen him for a great task - to shepherd God’s people
His breakthrough came when he killed Goliath
this feat brought him out into national spotlight
this marked Saul’s passing into history
Preconditions of a breakthrough
Preconditions of a breakthrough
A word of God - God’s must have a plant in your life
A word of God - God’s must have a plant in your life
God’s plan came to Joseph through his dreams
5 Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more.
6 So he said to them, “Please hear this dream which I have dreamed:
7 There we were, binding sheaves in the field. Then behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and indeed your sheaves stood all around and bowed down to my sheaf.”
8 And his brothers said to him, “Shall you indeed reign over us? Or shall you indeed have dominion over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.
9 Then he dreamed still another dream and told it to his brothers, and said, “Look, I have dreamed another dream. And this time, the sun, the moon, and the eleven stars bowed down to me.”
10 So he told it to his father and his brothers; and his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall your mother and I and your brothers indeed come to bow down to the earth before you?”
11 And his brothers envied him, but his father kept the matter in mind.
GOD CANNOT DO ANYTHING BEYOND HIS WORD THAT HE HAS PLACED IN YOUR LIFE.
A faithful walk - your response to God’s word in your life
A faithful walk - your response to God’s word in your life
Joseph was consistent in his faith in God
as he was in his father’s house, so he was in bondage
he refused to be tempted by Potiphar’s wife
he was trusted by his masters
the Bible testified of this
2 The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
3 And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand.
4 So Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him. Then he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under his authority.
5 So it was, from the time that he had made him overseer of his house and all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had in the house and in the field.
6 Thus he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, and he did not know what he had except for the bread which he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.
7 And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife cast longing eyes on Joseph, and she said, “Lie with me.”
8 But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand.
9 There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”
20 Then Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison.
21 But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.
22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners who were in the prison; whatever they did there, it was his doing.
23 The keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Joseph’s authority, because the Lord was with him; and whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper.
GOD ALLOWS “SETBACKS” (opposite of breakthroughs) TO TEST AND TO MOLD OUR CHARACTER.
David had established his relationship early in his life.
he served his father and brothers
he experienced God in his lonely days in the wilderness
the Bible testified of this
34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock,
35 I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it.
36 Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.”
Patient waiting on God
Patient waiting on God
Joseph’s waiting time
13 years - Gen 37.2; Gen 41.37
the last 2 years of silence - from the time he interpreted the dreams of the butler and baker
David’s waiting time
he was anointed king 3 times
in his father’s house, over his brethren
in Hebron, over all Judah
in Hebron, over all Israel
he was around 15 y.o. when he killed Goliath
he became king over all Israel at 30 years old
WHY WE MUST LEARN TO WAIT
GOD WANTS HIS SERVANTS BECOME -
TRIAL TESTED - PROVEN CHARACTER
TIME TESTED - PROVEN QUALITY
LONGER WAITING TIME MEANS
THE CLOSER WE GET TO OR BREAKTHROUGH
THE GREATER IS THE WORK OF GOD THAT AWAITS!
The “Master of Breakthroughs”
The “Master of Breakthroughs”
Baal-Perazim
19 So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” And the Lord said to David, “Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand.”
20 So David went to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there; and he said, “The Lord has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water.” Therefore he called the name of that place Baal Perazim.
Baal-Perazim - Master of Breakthroughs
David has proven time and again that it was God who makes the breakthrough in all his battles!
Baal-Perazim broke through the waters!
He parted the waters so Israel can cross over the Red Sea!
Baal-Perazim broke through solid walls!
He tore down the majestic walls of Jerico so that Joshua’s army can enter the city!
Baal-Perazim broke through the fire!
He entered the fire and diffused its heat so that the three Jews can walk out of it unscathed!
Baal-Perazim broke through into this sinful world!
He birthed a sinless Son into a sinful world
Baal-Perazim broke through the hithereto unconquered death!
He broke the chains of Hades to set free the people who waited for His salvation
He rose from the death even with the grave closed and well-guarded!
Baal-Perazim broke through walls of false Christianity!
He broke through the broken mind and heart of Martin Luther and planted a seed-word (Justification by faith) so that people can finally come out of the Roman system that enslaved people for more than a thousand years of spiritual darkness.
Because of the Reformation work of God, long-hidden apostolic teachings began to flow back to the church! Justification, Predestination, Sanctification, true Baptism, restoration of spirtual gifts, Son of Man ministry, Book of Revelation unveiled....and more!
Baal-Perazim has one more work in the church
the Bride of Christ today is at an “impasse”
like Elijah - the fire has come down, the false prophets are killed, but where is the rain?
41 Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.”
42 So Ahab went up to eat and drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; then he bowed down on the ground, and put his face between his knees,
43 and said to his servant, “Go up now, look toward the sea.” So he went up and looked, and said, “There is nothing.” And seven times he said, “Go again.”
44 Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said, “There is a cloud, as small as a man’s hand, rising out of the sea!” So he said, “Go up, say to Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot, and go down before the rain stops you.’ ”
45 Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain. So Ahab rode away and went to Jezreel.
the Seven Thunders will break the impasse!
1 I saw still another mighty angel coming down from heaven, clothed with a cloud. And a rainbow was on his head, his face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire.
2 He had a little book open in his hand. And he set his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land,
3 and cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roars. When he cried out, seven thunders uttered their voices.
the Last Trumpet will break through out mortal bodies and create a change!
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.
51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—
52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
Conclusion
Conclusion
Don’t miss your breakthrough
Joseph must have realized God was breaking through his impasse!
Elijah realized his breakthrough - a small cloud rising from the sea!
God promised new things to breaking through!
16 This is what the Lord says— he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters,
17 who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together, and they lay there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:
18 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
God recalls the past breakthroughs -
then says:
forget them, do not dwell on the past!
look forward to new things that I’m going to do!
“now it springs…perceive it!” - the breakthrough
